Liam was so tired, he’d probably have been able to sleep on a bed of nails. After his parents had gone home, Dante left to begin the pack meeting. Liam and Aled were excused and Dante said he’d pass on anything important they missed when they caught up the following morning.
“If you want me to leave you alone for a little while, I can join the meeting,” Aled said as they walked across the drive towards the garage.
He’d already told his mother that he’d be staying at Dante’s and that she was to go home without him, but he’d asked Liam at least three times if he wanted him to leave. He was obviously nervous about spending time alone together.
Liam turned to him. Every time he looked at his mate he felt a warm glow in his chest and when Aled smiled, it was like the sun appearing from behind a cloud on a stormy day. It brightened his whole world ― just being around Aled made life feel bearable again.
“I’d really like you to stay.”
When Aled nodded, Liam released the breath he’d been holding. He couldn’t have faced being alone, not after the day he’d had, but more so he didn’t want to be parted from Aled. He was glad they didn’t have to go to the meeting because he wanted to spend time alone with him. He wanted to hold him and hide away from the world, at least for a while.
Liam had used the large granny flat during his convalescence and though he’d only been in it for a couple of weeks, it had started to feel like home ― more so than the house he’d grown up in and still shared with his parents. He needed some time away from them, more specifically, time away from his father. He didn’t blame him for Toby’s death ― he knew logically that what happened to his brother had been an accident, but his father should have told them what Toby had said the night he’d died. It was a secret he shouldn’t have kept.
Liam unlocked the door to the garage then led Aled past Dante’s cars to the stairs at the far end. They took them up to a small landing which was empty save for two closed doors. Liam used another key to unlock the door to the left and after he’d pushed it wide, he motioned for Aled to enter. The room inside was a huge, wide open space with large windows that wrapped around the entire room, giving far reaching views of the forestry covered mountains. It looked the same as it had when Liam left it a few days earlier. The king size bed which dominated one side of the room had been neatly made and there were the distinct smells of pine furniture polish and lemon floor cleaner in the air, indicating that Mary had been on another cleaning frenzy.
“This is a nice place,” Aled said as he took his jacket off and placed it over the back of the couch.
